OK this post is semi-rant and it's inspired by the next Volkswagen Phaeton article posted yesterday.
In this article it calls out how many vehicles are built off this same new platform:
The next Phaeton will be all-new, and it will ride on Volkswagen's larger MLB Evo modular platform, one that will also underpin the next Audi A4, A6, A8, Q7 and Volkswagen Touareg.
Holy crap the A4 and is the same platform as the Q7?!
This article was also posted by Patrick George, who trashed Lincoln recently with the Matthew McConaughey with True Detective quotes over them.
Here's a quote from the beginning of that article:
The Lincoln Motor Company, which installs leather seats and mustache-shaped grilles onto SUVs made by Ford
This is where my rant begins, because if that's not a giant load of crap I don't know what is.
The MKC in question has upgraded suspension, even has a wider track than the Escape, a bigger engine that isn't available in the Escape, and doesn't share a single piece of body work.
But that's just a grille and some leather seats right?
Now when I called out that VW is platform sharing even worse than Ford/Lincoln on the front page all I got was one response saying "But Audi has Quattro". Great, good for them, it's a great AWD system. Did you know that every single Lincoln is available with AWD or in the case of the Navigator 4x4?
That's because the Jalopnik Front Page is on some kind of mission to beat down Lincoln. I agree that Lincoln isn't perfect and has a long way to go to compete with the likes of Cadillac again. And yes I know the first comment on this will say "Lincoln needs a RWD V8". The only difference between Lincoln and Caddy is that Caddy starts from the top and shares it's platforms down to the lower brands, but over at Ford they build a new platform and share it UP to Lincoln. (And, you know the whole RWD availability)
On the McConaughey article Mr. George responded to one of my comments saying the MKC is much better than he made it out to be, but it's what McConaughey drove in the TV Commercials so he went with it. And then made the obvious comment that Lincoln needs a RWD V8.
I guess I just simply don't understand why there is so much Lincoln hate form the Front Page, it doesn't seem justified to me. The two "all new" Lincolns that have come out most recently, MKZ and MKC, have been great cars that have upgraded engines vs their platform share. If Lincoln is going to get this much crap, they better start lining up brands like Acura and Infiniti and Chrysler to do the same thing.
I'm sure a bunch of you will disagree, go ahead and tell me how wrong I am in the comments.
Can't wait for this new MKX to hit the streets I think the concept looks great.
