On the bright side, it gave me plenty of time to get more acquainted with my still newish car. I can confirm that with my cruise control pegged at 84 mph (speed limits are 75 around here and cops don't do anything until you are 10 over) it averages just over 45 mpg. I still can't figure out what on earth the EPA test does to underrate the TDIs so much.

Also: why is it so impossible for manufacturers to put an accurate mpg counter in a car? I don't think I have ever driven a car that has even come close to being accurate... and it is not like they are just calibrated wrong, it seems that they are always off by a different amount.
