Time.com reports that newly-signed Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka paid approximately $200,000 to hire a Boeing 787 to fly him and his six presumably best friends from Tokyo to New York City. The 787, operated by Japan Airlines, typically seats 186 passengers. The charter was chosen to avoid any weather delays affecting New York City. However, a similar flight on a Delta Private Jets Gulfstream G550, billed at $12,950 per hour, would cost $181,300 (14 hour flight) before food. So in all seriousness, the Dreamliner is quite good value, especially when you consider it flew back to Tokyo with an empty cabin.
