Because I’m a giant dork who likes engines, and needs constant amusement at my desk, I got myself a new toy. It’s a teeny, tiny little Stirling external combustion engine. This one is from China, but is extremely well made. Everything is nicely machined and/or stamped, with a mirror polished metal base. The flywheel is nicely balanced, and even uses a real bearing. It’s satisfyingly heavy, and works perfectly. It’s great fun to watch, and the beautifully mechanical tick-tick-tick of it running is somehow oddly soothing. It comes with a tiny little burner for rubbing alcohol, but any flame would do, like one of those little tea light candles. The burner even has a little tiny magnet on the bottom so it stays put. Big thumbs up to Sunnytech on this thing.
