The TU-95 "Bear" has been the mainstay of the Russian/Soviet air force for as long as the B-52 has been for the US.

The Bear, with its distinctive counter rotating props and associated massive amounts of noise, has a distinctive profile with sharply swept wings and a huge tail. The Bear can reach 9400 miles, carry 44000 lbs of payload and travel 530 MPH. Not to shabby.

The Bear was frequently used to test the defenses of countries that the USSR/Russians had an interest in. As such, there were frequent intercepts.
