Wisconsin has this nifty law that says a minor can drink alcohol in a bar or restaurant if they’re with a family member or guardian. The establishment obviously has the right to refuse service though. I don’t know the background of the law, but presume it was snuck in when the fed made Wisconsin raise its drinking age in the 80s by threatening to withhold highway funds.

I have been on both sides of this. I have drank underage in bars (usually having a hot toddy when snowmobiling to warm up) and I have worked as a bouncer and let people drink. As long as people are being responsible, I don’t have a problem with it.

Personally I think its the parent’s responsibility to teach their kids how to drink responsibly and to know their limits. Its kind of dumb to keep alcohol away from people then send them off to college or wherever, where its everywhere. I knew a few people who were overprotected and lost their minds when they got some freedom.
