Everyone is fixated on volume, GM has #1 sales in America! But... They aren't making as much money as Ford...

Ford's operating margins in North America were 11% in the first quarter, whereas GM only managed 6.2%. It's also part of the reason GM's net income in North America last quarter was $1.18 billion, trailing Ford's $1.6 billion.

I am of course talking about high-volume auto manufacturers, the ones that are at the top volume wise. It's been a rather stable GM>Ford. But as the above quote points out, Ford looks like the real winner here. It is nice to be at the top of the sales charts, but I've always wondered if I should take those numbers with a grain of salt, but never really looked into it until now, turns out, I was right to wonder.

Don't get me wrong, I am still a nerd for the sales-stats, but it is interesting to take a step back and look at the bottom line.
