Given the current backlash against racism happening in South Carolina I was going to do a short post on this book but then discovered Jalopnik already did a way better job than I could back in 2011: so here’s a repost.

I first learned about this book because I was too cheap to pay for WiFi at Atlanta’s airport during a connection and ended up reading articles on the website of the Jimmy Carter presidential library which was free to access!

As a child of the eighties who grew up in Europe I was aware of the racism and segregation that had existed in the USA; but that this book was still necessary a mere 50 years ago was mind blowing and drove home the sheer level of it.
