A buddy of mine is a certified gearhead (has a '94 Miata, '02 GTI, and '10 MX-5 that he works on himself and races). He and his lady recently purchased a "fixer-upper" house, so I know his budget's stretched pretty thin these days. Despite this, he can never resist shiny things, and has been checking out the 911 Carrera S lately. I told him to check out the Cayman S instead, since it's a lot of car for less money.
His response was to tell me that I was utterly wrong, and that "the only reason anyone buys a Porsche that isn't a 911 is because he can't afford a 911." (I think it was Jeremy Clarkson who first said that.) But just how right is he? It doesn't seem like a terribly informed answer to me.
