I saw the video that’s flying around today about wagons accounting for 1.4% of car sales. Factors like a higher ride height are appealing to people, yes, but the big factor that made wagons more desirable, their cargo space, seems to be dwindling. The new Outback has a lower roof and slightly less cubic feet of cargo space than the new Forester, but it’s also nine inches longer and more expensive. As someone who has been able to carry a mini fridge standing up, the height of the cargo area matters.
