So a while ago, I was watching The Incredibles, because... why do I need an excuse? The Incredibles is a fantastic movie. But anyways, as I was watching, I noticed a very familiar shape parked by the side of the road. “It can’t be”, I thought. But then I started seeing more of them. There were several hidden throughout the movie, and the more I saw them the more I couldn’t deny what I was seeing. There are multiple fourth-gen (1964-66) Ford Thunderbirds in The Incredibles.
I went on the internet to see if anyone else noticed this, and it appears that at least one or two other people did, both of them here:
And that’s the only place on the whole internet I’ve found any mention of this. Which I find honestly a bit surprising, given that Pixar easter eggs are so popular. This has got to be the most obscure Pixar easter egg of all time.
In this tpicture, you can just barely make out a green T-bird in the upper right-hand corner. I remember this scene from the movie, so even though the image is a wee bit difficult to make out, I can confirm that the green car is another Thunderbird.
I also found this screenshot from the movie where you can see a cream-colored T-bird swerving out of the way:
And, last but not least, in the final scene of the movie, you see not one, but TWO fourth-gen Thunderbirds!!!
This is without a doubt my favorite Pixar easter egg of all time. Clearly, someone at Pixar was a car nut who took the time to sneak some of their favorite cars into the movie, and that’s awesome. The fact that I own a fourth-gen Thunderbird makes me like this even more. So next time you watch The Incredibles, be sure to keep an eye out for classic T-birds. I’m pretty sure there are more than just the ones I found.
