Sometimes, when life gets chaotic, I like to unwind by going out and doing some bird watching. Here we see a male and female hepatic tanager, so-called because... um... they tanage hepatics? Wait, no, it’s because hepatic means “liver-colored”. Which kind of ignores the fact that the females are yellow, but whatever... They’re still quite the cute couple!

In this second picture, we see a painted bunting. They’re the pop singers of the bird world, in that they look absolutely beautiful, but actually have somewhat mediocre singing voices.

Here’s an American goldfinch. So-called because of its affinity for beer, trucks, country music, and electing bad presidents erm, baseball! You can tell that this one is a male because the females are just brown.

Here we see a Thunderbird in its natural habitat! Manufactured by Ford from 1955 to 2005, these... Wait a minute...

Here’s that cute hepatic tanager couple again! And this time there’s a blue jay in the background as well! And... Wait, is that blue jay holding a meat cleaver? What is it doing? Did I just become a witness to something!?

Moving on... Here’s the American goldfinch again. This is the last time we’ll be seeing him, because shortly after this photo was taken, I implied that apple pie isn’t the greatest dessert ever, and he called me a communist and flew away in a huff.

Phew, it looks like the hepatic tanagers managed to escape the knife-wielding blue jay. Good for them. I wonder what happened to the blue jay, anyway...
