I may have pre-ordered a blu-ray box set despite not owning a blu-ray player (or a TV). In looking for an external drive to use with my desktop, I have found it to be pricey and apparently a pain in the ass.

It has come to my attention that apparently a playstation 3 works as a blue-ray player and is cheaper than a name-brand external drive that still needs purchased software to work. Is this true? If so, I guess I’m in the market for one, and will hook it up to one of my monitors.

(For audio I’ll get a thing to go in-line with the HDMI connection and pull out RCA connections to go to my computer stereo.)
