Awful portmanteau is awful. I carbon fiber wrapped my dash surrounds. It looks rather nice, I think.
Here's a look at what we end up with. Looks pretty nice, catches the light in a nice way.
Before. My shitty matte-black spray paint that was all scratched up and awful. Sitting on top of my $7 of Chinese carbon fiber from Amazon.
Started wrapping. This is a complex shape, making this a huge pain in the cornhole. Note the hair dryer. I burnt my hand several times with this bastard because of how hot it got the vinyl.
Partway done. Took two hours to get to this point. Resigned myself to sleep.
An example at how this stuff just isn't flexible enough for these curves. No amount of stretching could get this to lie smooth on this end, but luckily it's not really visible.
Meanwhile, I was Mad Max-ing it with no dash.
Finally finished. Time to put the vents back in...
Vents in place. They all fit still, looks quite nice. The brown contrasts nicely with the CF.
A look at the backside, where I wrapped the vinyl around to keep it from peeling off too easily.
Installed! My glove compartment got jiggled out of place when it was unscrewed while the panel was off, so I spent 20 minutes taking it out and putting it back in so it would close correctly. I just got home and realized also that I forgot to hook up the switch panel for the DIC. Crap.
The fake wood and fake carbon fiber is a great commentary on the duality of men. Or some bullshit.
