We decided to get after the two ancient, mostly dead bushes in front of the house today. And I found out why the lopping shears I bought a few years ago were so inexpensive. Hollow aluminum tube + 10 years old + lots of leverage = sheared metal. Had to go buy some more, then came home and cracked the wooden handle on my spade. Got the stumps out, though, and it looks a lot better. Not sure what we’ll plant in their place.
