Business necessity. A business necessity is a legitimate business purpose that justifies an employment decision as effective and needed to optimally achieve the organization’s goals and ensure that operations run safely and efficiently.

In this case, we don’t have enough business so they decided it is a necessity that I take a few weeks of vacation while we wait for one of several contracts to be signed by the appropriate government officials. Or a severance package. My choice.

On the bright side, I now have the time to go finish the prep work to sell my mom’s place. That isn’t much of a bright side, but it’s work I need to get done.

On the brighter side, my wife passed another of her architectural licensing exams! Four to go.
