Canadian Team claims Human-Powered Helicopter prize

This past Thursday, a team called AeroVelo from the University of Toronto claimed the $250,000, 33-year-old Sikorski prize for a human-powered helicopter flight. To satisfy the requirements of the prize, the helicopter reached a height of 3m, hovered for over 60 seconds, all while drifting less than 10m. From the expression on the pilot/engine's face, it is clear that this success was only achieved with tremendous effort, both on his part, and that of the engineering team. It was this same group that made a human-powered ornithopter that flew for 19 seconds to set a landmark in human-powered flight.
