Yesterday we had a look at all the amazing cars in the 1990s GT1 class, today we’ll continue with the GTS and FIA GT1 championship cars. Towards the end of the old GT1, teams were abusing the guidelines to the point the cars were more prototype than GT. In 1999 the governing body behind the 24 hours replaced GT1 with GTS. GTS cars were bigger, more powerful, and more winged than their garden variety GT counterparts. This class ran for about a decade before it was merged into a consolidated grand touring class (GTE). Outside of Le Mans FIA ran a championship for GT1 cars that gained a surprising amount of popularity for a while. Both FIA GT1 and Le Mans GTS produced some of the coolest racecars ever known to man.
