Clapping on planes?

So the Post has this article:

Is this still a thing people do? I saw it a lot after 9/11 (and hated it), but I can’t even remember the last time I’ve been on a flight where people did this... Do I need to be flying to the mid-west more or something? Is it a hokey thing that some airline I don’t fly encourages? Is the Post just 15 years behind on their trends?

Do you applaud when your plane touches down?
