On March 18, 2016, this Northrop Grumman E-2C Hawkeye was coming in for a landing aboard the USS Eisenhower (CVN 69) when the arrestor cable snapped. Despite the Hawkeye being slowed by the cable, the pilot was able to keep the plane out of the ocean, though they probably got their feet wet in the process. The US Navy investigation into the incident that injured 8 sailors blamed human error for improperly programming the arresting valve on the #4 wire. This video is a terrific example of why carrier aircraft land under full power in the event of such a mishap.
