I love, love, love the current BMW M5. Yes, the heavy one. Yes, the back seat is a bit tight. And yes, the new M3 sure does overlap it now in size while being much lighter and better on a track.

But, these are about to start coming off lease! 2 years ago I got to drive one of these at the BMW 2 day track and road event for BMWCCA members. On the track it was a bit heavy, but the twin turbo V8 plus DCT meant it was happy to wag that tail all day long.

But it was on the road in the South Carolina mountain that the big girl really shines. Playing lead/follow with the BMW instructors the M5 ate up road like nobodies business. It loves corners, made lovely noises and basically begs you go full Ricky Bobby all the time. I went from "its for dentists, get an M3" to "someday my pretty, someday". So 2013+ M5's are actually really good M cars for the sort of driving 90% of buyers actually do. And that's my contrary opinion.
