by that I mean the T56 out of my GTO

eww
bellhousing off

It is seriously disgusting. That is in part thanks to the leaking rear main seal I had. I have it here because having my tech do more work would just be too much money and he doesn’t feel comfortable doing this job. I have to pull the bellhousing and front cover because the pilot bearing disintegrated and wore out my input shaft.

input shaft

As you can see it is very hourglassed. I could replace the shaft which is $400 and then would require full transmission tear down as a new shaft would have to be shimed and put into place. Thankfully there is a wonderful place called Texas Drivetrain Performance. These wonderful people will weld on new material and mill the shaft down back to spec. Then I will be able to place the same shaft in my transmission without shimming it. This means I can take off the bellhousing and the front plate and take it out from the top. This whole ordeal will be $80 +s&h and be about a 3-5 turnaround time. Sometimes fixing is better than replacing.
