So I need a tool to hold my cam gear while I torque down the nut to 85 ft lb. The official ALfa tool is at least $60 on ebay. I tried making one from a 2x4 and some grade 8 bolts, but that ended poorly.

So I have my old timing belt, and got to thinking it would make a great strap wrench not just for this job, but for lots of work like oil filter swaps, tie rods, etc.

Any thoughts on how to make a handle that would compress the belt without ruining it, and also provide enough leverage to hold the cam gear in place while I lean on the torque wrench?
