A family of four in Costa Mesa awoke to a dramatic scene shortly after 1:30 a.m. Wednesday when a car slammed into a bedroom, causing minor injuries to a woman.
"The only thing I remember was this loud noise and waking up, there was debris everywhere," Don Vander Wal told KTLA. "I thought it was a just a massive earthquake that had hit and the house was falling apart."
The crash was reported in the 1600 block of Myrtlewood Street, a residential neighborhood where the driver "missed a turn,"
Lawrence Smith, 26, a Costa Mesa resident identified as the driver, was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence, said Sgt. Patrick Wessel of the Costa Mesa Police Department.
A woman suffered cuts from debris, he said. She was taken to a hospital.
