By now I'm sure we've all seen or heard about the incident in the pitlane during this weekend's GP. Mr E now says all FOM cameramen will join the photographers on the pitwall hereon. Some cameramen are saying on twitter that they accept the risk and would like to continue staying exactly where they are.
Wouldn't it better for everyone all round to use drones? They can get to extreme angles, can flit it and out of position easily, the cameraman is safely out of the way thus reducing number of bodies in the active firing zone. Win-win? In fact, if you look at it, if the left rear tyre had come loose instead of the right rear, it could have bounced along merrily and hit someone on the pitwall instead. With nobody looking into the pitlane at that moment, they'd have been just as surprised as the cameraman who was looking the other way. A catch fence perhaps? Or something that is more aesthetic but just as good in stopping errant wheels might be a good option.
