One open question that has worried many is whether recovering from the disease, or getting vaccinated, offers any long-term protection. The data has been unlimited, unsurprising given the fact that we don’t have much experience with this virus, and there have been reports of people getting infected twice.
From what I understand of this blog post, which is technical but written well enough to be comprehensible to ignorant people like me, is that recent studies are showing that long-term immunity is indeed still possible, perhaps even probable.
Still early, obviously, but the difference between 2-3 years of societal disruption and decades is not insignificant.
(Of course, if we could just agree to wear masks, we’d probably be looking at an economic recovery next year, but clearly selfishness and politics are making that improbable.)
