After my last alignment (after which it was actually in spec for the first time ever!) the steering wheel was about 5 degrees clockwise off the proper position. So since I had nothing planned today, I took it off.
Don’t worry, I put it back on. Things I learned today- steering wheels are easy to remove, my airbag is indeed 20 years old and will likely kill me in a crash, and the wire harness for the airbag was not actually attached. It is now, which is confirmed by a code scan.
Speaking of, note my handle change! Down from 5 codes to 2, the original two I had nonetheless, bad O2 sensor and camshaft position sensor. I also learned that the wheel is from a Cabrio, like the rest of the interior. This gives the following mishmash of current parts, as far as I know:
Original vehicle- 1996 VW Golf
Interior- Mk3 VW Cabrio, post facelift
Seats- Mk3 GTI or Jetta GLX
Rear suspension-stock except springs from Ford Ranger.
