I have collective bargaining today, and we really have some problems. I am negotiating two contracts with the same union at the same time, something I have never done before.
Both companies are small businesses, so there are no resources for a war with the union. We want to get reasonable deals and move on.
But for various reasons, we have problems. At one, we thought we had a deal but the workers voted it down resoundingly, meaning there is a pretty big disconnect between the people at the table and the rest of the bargaining unit.
At the other company, the workers on the bargaining committee have stopped showing up for negotiations, and there is a lit of grumbling that the workers are unhappy with the union.
We really just need to get these deals done, but I don’t see a clear road how to get there.
