How are we this Sunday? I have so far hauled myself out of bed and changed the oil in my Outback. I’ve been keeping to a 5,000 mile schedule. The original from Subaru was something like 6,000 or 7,500 but I think Subaru was overly optimistic with the switch to 0W20 based on all the oil consumption issues people have been having with the FB25. By 5,000 it’s black and hasn’t burned a whole quart so it seems like a good changing interval. Interestingly none of the aftermarket oil filters I’ve bought that claim to fit this motor are anywhere near as tall as the OEM. I know that doesn’t necessarily mean that the OEM has more filter surface but I’m not risking it. I pick up filters and drain plug crush rings by the 6 at dealer and it really isn’t much more expensive than the parts store.
