June 19, 2013 - On Wednesday night's Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert paid tribute to his mother, Lorna Colbert, who died last week at the age of 92. Colbert opens the show with the tribute, explaining why he's been out for the past week, and, in a rare break from character, movingly tells his audience about his mother's life, her childhood, how she met her husband, her faith, and her love for her children.

"I know that it may sound greedy to want more days with a person who lived so long," Colbert said. "But the fact that my mother was 92 does not diminish, it only magnifies the enormity of the room whose door has now quietly shut."

"Her favorite memory of prayer was a young mother tucking in her children," Colbert said later in the tribute, pausing to compose himself. "We were the light of her life, and she let us know it until the end. And that's it. Thank you for listening."
