About my quest: Green Mountain Peak is 14,037 feet in elevation, second highest in California. You park at 12,000 feet and it’s a 12-mile circuit to the peak and back. Missus and I tried it 25 years ago, but the altitude took me out almost before I began. We tried again two weeks ago, subjecting my beloved van to that awful road, but various knee, ankle and foot ailments caused us to stop short. I vowed to return.
