Before Ryan Seacrest, before Dick Clark, there was Guy Lombardo, the big band leader who rang in the New Year from the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City for 48 years in a row. His annual performance of Auld Lang Syne cemented the song in American New Year’s tradition. This top video is from Lombardo’s final performance in 1976-1977. Definitely a sound from an earlier era, but what would you expect from the guy who spends all his time writing about history? Happy New Year to all of Oppo and to all the world. Best wishes for a peaceful, happy, healthy and prosperous 2016.
