The leather on my 1993 Miata wheel was starting to feel less than satisfying to grip. Let me tell you a story in Instagram pictures.
Pictured above “final” product after $52.
The first step was a product of my cheapness and fit attitude. I went to a national fabric store where they gave me free 4" samples of marine grade vinyl.
Then I spent 8+ hours hand sewing it over the old wheel.
This was...fine...but not the tactile experience I wanted. I would use real leather or suede if I were to go to the trouble of doing it again. (I probably won’t but it cost me no dollars and I learned something)
So I bought a $40 wheel and $12 dollar hub adapter on Amazon and enlisted my 5 year old to install it.
Grabbed an old license plate to make a horn delete.
Cleaned it up.
And now I have Tavarish’s favorite. A suede wheel.
We'll see how I like it in time.
