I saw McFarland, USA last night. Nice movie, though I always feel duped when I learn how far these "based on a true story" films tweak the facts. I was distracted throughout, in good and bad ways, by the cars (most of the story unfolds in 1987). Kevin Costner drives a gloriously unmolested Wagoneer, and the town is crawling with '60s to '80s iron. And then there are the lowriders, which are often appalling but always fascinating. The alpha dog of the lowrider club drives what looks to be a '75 Caprice, which in hindsight had about as horrific a quasi-opera window treatment as you'll see. Pretty much like this:
