For quite some time now the intermittent wiper function and washer fluid pump were kaput on my 1990 Lincoln Mark VII LSC. After troubleshooting and some advice I was able to deduce it was in fact the multifunction switch/stalk itself on the steering column. I actually found out how to take the wiper portion apart via a Facebook group. I figured what the hell, I may as well try. Took it apart, cleaned it up, and put it back together WITHOUT the detent spring as I had dropped that. It worked. 100 percent functional minus the fact that the detent spring had to be installed. I remove everything, get the detent spring in place, reinstall everything.......AAAAAND I lose the intermittent function and washer pump again. For what it’s worth, the ONLY function of the detent spring is to hold the wiper controller position in either High, low, intermittent, or off. It has ZERO electrical input. It’s purely mechanical/friction based.

So, to recap: Thought I had a free fix, Did for a fleeting moment, got let down, and had to in fact order a new part.....
