I don’t really know why, but I’m lusting over the thought of a 911 as a ‘next’ car.

I think a lot of it is because I’m a huge fan of Salomondrin and his 911R is pretty incredible

It’s not like I’ve never been a fan of Porsche. I’ve always liked some of their cars but I never quite saw the appeal of the 911 over the Cayman. It’s always felt a bit overvalued: a top spec car only because the mid-tier is intentionally held back. A car more for making an appearance rather than enjoying a drive. A car that’s remained unchanged for so many years not because it is ideal but because it is an idea.

In reality it seems like a good fit for me. Attractive, supposedly great to drive, and with a certain level of comfort rarely found on something this sporty. It seems to promise a grand touring experience for cruising while still allowing for a sports car like nimbleness when called upon.

I think the final piece to my 911 puzzle was found by Matt Farah in his recent review of a 1997 car where he commented that the 911 offers a high level of refinement because all the noise of the car is behind you which sounded downright delightful to me.

I don’t know what I will do with this new interest. At the moment about all I can say is my “next car” list is topped by two wildly different contenders: the Mustang GT350 and the Porsche 911.
