At first, I liked Infiniti’s new commercial, targeted towards the coveted young male buyer, which makes a tongue-in-cheek commentary on branching out from the tradition of German luxury cars.
However, it left me with an odd feeling. I’m not typically one to read into things too deeply and I’m definitely not the oversensitive “PC Police” type. But this commercial literally feels like a joke about a dude who is coming out to his father. It features a tense moment between father and son, in what appears to be a wealthy and conservative household. You can watch it for yourself but it includes lines such as:
“...it just feels right”
“This isn’t how we raised you”
“You must have known I was a little...different”
At best, it’s a good idea that’s poorly executed. At worst, it might be a little offensive. Am I alone here?
