The state of California, and the Bureau of Automotive Repair decided to update the smog machine that tests 1999 cars and older to the internet. The machine is called the BAR 97, and it’n been on a phone line forever. It also costs the shop roughly $1.45 each time we “dial out” to do a smog.
Well, ever since the state starting rolling out the update the entire network has been crashing. Before the update I never had a problem connecting on the other machine, called the OIS, which tests cars 2000 and newer.
I don’t even get the benefit of Calpers yet I have to deal with the bullshit way the state does business.
So I’m currently just standing here twiddling my thumbs and a customer is waiting. Nice.
Update before I even post this: The state must be listening and now it’s working.
