Since my oldest is getting close to driving age and we have access to an old truck and quiet country roads, this is the perfect opportunity to teach my daughter how to drive stick the truck is an early ‘90s Nissan “hardbody” with a manual transmission, manual windows, and no power steering. It’s perfect for learning things the old- school way.
We went out for a lesson this afternoon. She made all the common mistakes - not enough gas, too much gas, releasing the clutch too quickly, releasing it to slowly, and not turning at the right rate. We must have done fifty starts from a dead stop, most of them on hills. She only killed it three times. She still has a long way to go, but she’s progressing well.
When we finally pulled back into the driveway, she said that she really likes the old truck. It really surprised me. She may be a gear head after all.
