I attended Monterey Car Week for the first time this year, and I must say it was absolutely amazing. I’ve put together a collection of some of the highlights this year. One thing missing from this gallery are the Pebble Beach cars, as I was late to see the tour on 17 Mile Drive and didn’t take any pictures when they were displayed on Ocean Avenue (Way too many people).
On the night of our arrival I stopped by the Hyatt hotel to see the Mercedes CLK GTR in person. Accompanying it were the owner’s Renntech SLS Black and Mansory SLR.
A little ways down was a blue LaFerrari, which happens to be a car I have seen before.
The next morning was the first event, Concours on the Avenue. This was the first car I spotted as I arrived. I must say it does look much better in person.
Some of the cars at the event not featured here were many vintage Ferraris, including a beautiful 275GT, and many Porsche 356 Speedsters.
Later that day we went for a drive on 17 Mile Drive and came across the three Mercedes again, and ended up following them for quite a while.
While there I decided to stop by Polo Fields, where a large portion of the cars are unloaded off carriers.
The real highlight however was seeing the Mclaren F1 GTR being unloaded, along with the new 675LT, 650S Le Mans, and a couple 570S’.
Later that day I stopped by the Hyatt yet again, as I had heard that the Lykan Hypersport is parked there for the night. After seeing it in person, I can confirm that it looks just as bad in person. Striking, but ugly.
The next day I stopped by the RM Auctions preview to view the Pinnacle Portfolio, a collection of vintage and modern supercars going up for sale. Walking around the room with all the cars was completely overwhelming.
Also on display was the last Enzo ever made, Koenigsegg CCXR, Maserati MC12, 959 Komfort, Dino GT, 2000GT, Daytona Spyder, Reventon, and well as two Veyrons.
Yet again the next day we went onto 17 Mile Drive and ended up finding the three Mercs doing a photoshoot, so we stopped and took a few photos. Within a few minutes, a crowd of spectators and photographers arrived.
That night was the supercar event at the Jet Center, which I couldn’t get into. However I did wait outside and watch some of the cars come in.
The following day we started off heading down to Ocean Avenue to view the Pebble Beach cars. I didn’t take any photos, however I did get pictures of a few cars around the area.
After walking around Ocean avenue for a while we stopped at the Quail a day prior to the event to watch everything being set up. Some of the cars prepping for the show included an Alfa 33 Tipo Stradale, the new Audi R8, Ferrari 250GTO, and the not yet unveiled Aventador SV Roadster. As well as a LaFerrari and Mclaren F1 in the parking lot.
And as a little bonus, Mike Musto driving by in a Superbird.
Friday was by far the best and busiest day of the week. It started out with Legends of the Autobahn, a German car events with plenty of BMWs including the new M4 GTS and E46 M3 GTR, then onto Werks Reunion to see all the Porsches. We didn’t stay long at either event since the plan was to be at the Quail as long as possible. Originally everyone was going to walk around the Quail parking lot and watch the spectator cars come and go, as simply the parking lot had incredible stuff. However we got word that the staff were kicking lots of people without tickets out of just the parking area. Once we got there and with the help of a few friends, we worked out a plan to sneak into the Quail show itself, which, long story short, was much, much easier than I expected.
Finished off the day by attending Exotics on Cannery Row. When I first got there, the lighting was awful and there were way too many people, so I ended up chatting with friends the entire time. Because of this I missed a good majority of the notable cars as well as perfect lighting for photos once the sun had started setting. Nevertheless I did see quite a few interesting exotics there.
The final day began with Concorso Italiano, which was considerably less impressive than I anticipated, however I did meet Lamborghini’s official photographer and had a chat with him which did make up for it. After that it was on to Laguna Seca for the historic races.
