I’m the youngest of 9 kids. He was a top turret gunner in a B17 in WWII. His crew was the first in the 447th to complete 30 missions over Europe. I wish he was still with us. Top row, 4th from right.

He also raced when he got back from the war.

About a year ago, I did a flight in a B17. Pretty awesome, and pretty crazy what those men had to endure hours on end. My dad never rarely talked about the war. Never mentioned his crew members, I can only remember one or two stories. A few years after he died, a former crew member found our family. We traded a few emails until we no longer heard from him.

I miss my old man.
