One of the best things to happen to Birmingham recently is the Indy race at Barber Motorsports Park. The city, however, has decided to stop funding it, because "decisions at Barber aren't made by anyone who looks like [city councilman Steven Hoyt (pictured)]."

Not, "We can't afford it and need to make some tough choices," or "It's not even within our city limits." (The track is in Leeds.) But good old fashioned racism. It just wouldn't be Birmingham any other way. (And for those of us keeping score at home, reaction to the horrific accident at the airport devolved into a race war on the Birmingham News' website.) No wonder business and industry have fled the city...

Can we edit the pic of Bugs Bunny sawing off Florida to include Alabama? And I say this as someone who was born there and went to college and law school there. SMH.
