Jaime Bonilla was sworn into office as the governor of Baja California today. He’s also the first governor to unseat the conservative party who has had a hard grasp of the state since the 90s.
Bonilla, who has a colourful history as a Republican, has become the first politician in history be democratically chosen for public office in both Mexico and the United States.
He was the president of the Otay water board in California for twelve years. He also donated money to Republican campaigns like the one for John Mccain.
It is still unclear whether he’ll govern for the stated two years or for the “requested” five.
