More vehicle fires in rear end accidents. I’ve seen 3 this week. Notable is that all of them were turbocharged cars. Today was a 13-15 Malibu LTZ.
Yesterday was a WRX and Monday was a Veloster turbo.
So what gives?
I’m guessing a crash hard enough to fracture a high pressure fuel line causes atomized fuel to spray all through the engine bay. The very hot turbocharger ignites it and “whoof.”
