I have been a loyal TiVo user for 16 years now, but for the last year or so things just haven’t been the same. Functions that have worked perfectly for years, and I mean simple things like automatically recording all episodes of a particular TV show, have stopped functioning correctly. Certain keystrokes on the remote that have been fine for years no longer work. For some time now the quality has gone to shit and I didn’t know why.

Well, yesterday I discovered that in September 2016 some company called Rovi changed their name to TiVo and bought the DVR pioneer. The quality and ease of use that were the hallmarks of this device are gone. I’ve seen it time and time again, where some crappy company buys up a good, but struggling, company and cashes in on their good name and reputation. I can’t believe that I’m about to say this, but after 16 years I’m probably done with them, and this really saddens me. I’m sure that I can find a cheaper alternative that will be nearly as good, something I didn’t think would be possible in years past.

Bye bye TiVo, it’s been a good run...
