So there was a big thing that came out with the original Pixel and Pixel XL phones. These were supposed to have unlimited, lifetime original quality uploads to Google Photos, right? Forever. Lifetime. This was a huge selling point. The Pixel 2 and XL 2 came out with a limit on the number of years this was available, through 2021, I suspect because they assumed a lot of upgrades would be forced to extend the lifetime uploads. So anyone with a Pixel or Pixel XL would have an incentive not to upgrade.

Well, today, looking at the comparison page, I see this in the disclaimers:

Pixel and Pixel XL: Unlimited online original quality storage of photos/videos taken with your Pixel through 2020, high quality for all other photos/videos. Requires Google Account. Data rates may apply.

³Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL: Unlimited online original quality storage of photos/videos taken with your Pixel through 2021, high quality for all other photos/videos. Requires Google Account. Data rates may apply.

⁴Pixel 3 and 3 XL: Free unlimited online original-quality storage for all photos and videos uploaded to Google Photos from Pixel 3 through 1/31/2022. Photos and videos uploaded before 1/31/2022 will remain free at original-quality. Requires Google Account. Data rates may apply. Visit: g.co/help/photostorage.

Yep, right there. Pixel and Pixel XL owners have unlimited original quality uploads through 2020. Last I checked, that does not mean lifetime. Someone is going to catch on to that, and there’s going to be a stink.
