What is the sound of one piston slapping?

I know I haven’t posted here in a long time since I’ve been in college, which is awesome so far. Anyways, I had a question about my laptop (Dell XPS 13) and audio/microphone devices.

I’m trying to use two different audio/microphone devices at the same time using a splitter. The splitter is supposed to take a microphone input and an audio input, and combine them into the single jack on the XPS 13. For the audio, I am using a pair of generic earbuds with no inline microphone, which has a generic jack (with 2 black lines). For the microphone, I am using a gaming headset with a built-in microphone, which has a jack with 3 black lines.

I want to be using the earbuds for audio, while using the gaming headset purely for the microphone. However, no matter what I plug into the jack, I only see the default “speakers” or “microphone” using “Intel Smart Sound Technology.” I have no way to select the external microphone, as it does not detect it. It’s kind of difficult to explain, so if you require any more specifics, let me know.

Here’s something you don’t see every day. Lamborghini pizza car.
