Dear Oppo friends,
Please take a moment to read this article regarding the FAA’s proposed changes to flight rules regarding model aircraft and “drones.”
The key concerns include:
- Unreasonable cost increases due to a proposed FAA requirement for every model aircraft to have an always-on internet connection so the model can report its GPS coordinates when its in the air.
- The eventual elimination of all current and future flying fields where model aircraft can be flown without an always-on internet connection.
- The elimination of all hobbyist designed and constructed model aircraft due to FAA review and approval of the construction before allowing it to fly.
The proposed rules will squash hobbyist innovation and raise even more barriers to people becoming pilots. Many of us started as r/c pilots before we ever got out pilot’s licenses.
