References? Really? After the fact?

Bought a car, signed the paperwork, drove home a few states away, days later I get an email from the dealership telling me that the lender wants two references. Excuse me? For what? In case they can't get hold of me. Hmmm. I do not feel comfortable giving out names and numbers to a finance company that approved a loan without said references. I have good credit, excellent payment history and I'm not an idiot. Stop treating me like one.

What should I do, oh Oppo? Cave and give the references? Hold on to my principles and tell the dealer to just have the lender call me? Destroy the lender with impunity and high explosives?
