Maxim Martin is the current BMW DTM Test and development pilot (and ALMS racer). But what most people (and all motorsport lovers) know him for are his "hero stints" during the 2012 24h of Spa and this years Nürburgring 24. He was racing a BMW Z4 GT3 for customer team MarcVDS both times.
Some facts: He was lapping the fastest in the wet in Spa, and at this years race he lapped the whole Ring in a whopping 8:22. This is incredible as the best qualifying time was a 8:17, driven with a one-lap setup and no traffic. He only lost 5 seconds in a car that has been racing for 14 hours while lapping countless slower cars. What a mad man.
Now here comes something interesting: His father is Jean-Michel Martin, belgian touring car legend. He won the 1992 24hs of the Ring in a E30 DTM - while the son is driving the current M3 DTM. Just like this year the '92 race was red flagged too because of heavy rain. It definetly is a family thing for "The Martins".
That's a good thing actually as daddy Jean-Michel won Spa... 4 times! And he scored a Le Mans GTP class victory. I have a feeling that Maxim might just be able to repeat or even outplay these achievements.
